We often hear about the Lincoln lawyer rotten tomatoes, especially those who defend the political opponents of the president of the United States. What are rotten tomatoes and what does a Lincoln lawyer have to do with it?
A “Rotten Tomato” is a tomato with an outer layer that has lost its skin. The outer layer has fallen off, making a very small, but extremely tasty fruit. Now, that does not mean the fruit itself has any bad taste. Rather it is the skin of the tomato, which contains a bitter, offensive taste.
The Lawyer in question in the Lincoln case was an attorney named William H. Herndon. This is the same attorney who defended Andrew Johnson during the Civil War. He is a man of honor, a man of principle, a person of character, and I am sure you can see what I am saying. What he did not know at the time of his defense of President Lincoln, was that his personal friendship with Lincoln would soon be the reason for him being publicly humiliated. Let me share with you some of his quotes from this case:
“Rotten tomatoes are not only dangerous, they are a menace to society.” – Robert Kennedy
“Lawyer's lawyers are often rotten…” – Albert Gore-Biden
“When your life has been torn by the rapacity of lawyers, you should understand that nothing can compare to the feeling you will experience when you discover the cause of the law gone mad…” – Senator Robert Kennedy in the Senate who stood firm for John Kennedy, because I know that they are like the lawyer in that they are a great example to our children…” – Senator Robert Kennedy
“They are like the tomato… they come in all different shapes, colors and sizes…” – Senator Robert Kennedy
“Lawyers are sometimes rotten…” – Senator Robert Kennedy
How much does all of this have to do with President Obama? Not a whole lot, really, no more than a little bit. I just don't believe that he knows what “Rotten Tomatoes” is, but he certainly knows what they're about. His whole career is about his relationships with others and how he manages them. But, he is the President of the United States of America, so I guess he is well aware of what a “Rotten Tomato” looks like.
I am sure that as much as some of his associates and supporters would like to see President Obama is impeached, the truth is that we've seen it all before. There are people in the world that have made mistakes, but we trust their words and actions. For now, we are safe in the knowledge that we have a great man in our White House that knows the difference between right and wrong and knows that words are very powerful.
Just like the Lincoln lawyer, Robert Kennedy and President Johnson, we now can look to President Obama as our savior and hope that he will always use words wisely and use them for our protection. rather than using his hands. Please consider all this. Consider it all.
